Candidates for the Tetra CO2 laser want to improve their skin’s texture, tone, and condition through a comprehensive skin resurfacing treatment. Candidates should also be generally in good health and not have any active skin lesions or cold sores.

The Tetra CO2 CoolPeel® may not be suitable for all skin tones, however, as the heat from the treatment may cause patients with darker skin tones to experience post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

How Are Tetra CO2 CoolPeel® Laser Treatments Performed?

Tetra CO2 CoolPeel® Treatments are performed in the office and usually take 45 minutes to an hour. Your provider will prepare your treatment area by applying a topical anesthetic to ensure maximum comfort. You may be asked to arrive at your appointment early to allow the anesthetic to numb the area, which can take 30 to 45 minutes. Once the area is sufficiently numbed, your provider will begin treatment.

Depending on your predetermined treatment plan, your laser technician will pass the device across your skin to address your concerns. The laser will use heat to cause micro-injuries across the skin, leaving parts unharmed in a grid-like pattern. This technique allows less trauma to the surrounding tissue, resulting in a quicker recovery. Once your treatment is over, your technician may apply a soothing moisturizer, antibiotic cream, or sunscreen to your treatment area.

Immediately following treatment, your skin may be red, warm, and rough to the touch. You will be sent home with a topical antibiotic or moisturizer to protect your skin for the first few hours after treatment.

Perhaps the most significant benefit of the Tetra CO2 CoolPeel® Laser is that it offers transformational results with minimal downtime. Following the procedure, your skin will shed, with some roughness, slight scabbing, and peeling. You may also experience some redness that looks like a sunburn, but most patients only go through this recovery period for two days.

When Will I See the Results of My Tetra CO2 CoolPeel® Laser Treatment?

Most patients will see results after recovery, so around two days post-treatment. After the dead, damaged layer of skin peels, you can see your final results: smooth, more even, and glowing skin.

We will use a topical anesthetic to provide our patients with the highest comfort level. However, you may experience some discomfort during the treatment. Most patients feel warmth from the laser, which is not uncomfortable, and a slight snapping sensation.

How do I prepare for my CO2 CoolPeel® Laser treatment?
It’s a good idea to avoid harsh topicals, including retinoids and acids, for a few days prior to treatment. Additionally, it’s best to keep the treatment area out of sunlight before and after your session (including tanning beds and UV lights) and always apply sunscreen.

How can I care for my skin after my CO2 CoolPeel® treatment?
In addition to wearing a good SPF daily, moisturize the treatment area, especially during your recovery period. Choose a gentle moisturizer without added fragrance, as your skin will be very sensitive.

Depending on your treatment plan, be wary when adding new topical skincare into your routine after treatment. Think of it as you have brand new skin: all dead skin has been removed, and the latest skin will be susceptible. Always test the product on your arm beforehand, and avoid harsh retinoids for at least a month.
